The high chair incident

No one in the world probably cares, but this picture makes me smile every time I see it. It was quite the morning. Eden was fussy and needy a couple of mornings ago from being sick and was demanding every snack she could think of before 7 a.m. Mike and I tried to appease her, but the morning just wasn't going very smooth. We put her in her high chair thinking that she had snacks in front of her and maybe perhaps she'd be happy. We were talking in the kitchen over our morning coffee and looked over at Eden. She was stuck, very stuck in her high chair. The only way we could get her out was to lay the high chair down on the ground and let her slide out. It's a funny memory to me, and reminds me that mornings with a two year are never dull.

"Speermint" #2

Eden loved this experiment. I found it just by searching for a slime recipe, and it was so easy and the results yield slime that can be played with for weeks. All we needed to start was a new tube of school glue and 1 tsp. of Borax, water, a bowl, and something to stir it with.

We poured the glue into the bowl and filled the empty tube of glue with warm water. We put the lid back on and shook it and dumped that in the bowl. Mix it together.

Keep an eye on your babe,

add 1 tsp. of borax to a 1/2 cup of water and mix that. Slowly pour and stir it into the glue mixture. Add a couple of drops of food coloring...

...and you have yourself some slime!

Eden & I are taking a break from our usual creations of jewelry, pinwheels, playfood, and noodle necklaces to expand our horizons. I recently saw a link on www.oneprettything.com to make some beautiful milk swirls from Crafts by Amanda. Sounded weird, but we wanted to give it a try. To start off, we filled the bottom of an 8x8 pan with milk.

We then added in four different food colorings.

And the coolest part, squirt dish soap in the middle of the pan,

Yeah, that's fine, have a chat while Mommy watches the experiment herself.

I loved watching this. Either my life is really boring, I'm simple minded, or it really is cool.

Weekend in Waupaca

Last weekend, we enjoyed some family time at my parents up in Waupaca. Caribou Grandma made a special birthday cake to celebrate Caribou Grandpa's belated birthday which was very fun for a certain little miss.

Mike and I enjoyed an afternoon out on the downtown in Waupaca. We went to the thrift store and found a $2 Manhattan toy for Micah, browsed the children's toy store, and enjoyed some fried calamari at T.W.Martins.

Mike and my dad had a good time playing "Don't Let Mama Fall";

while Eden and Caribou Grandma had fun dressing up.

This little big boy was happy no matter what anyone decided to do,

and Caribou Grandpa was pretty happy about his new rachet straps he got for his birthday.

Eden enjoyed lots of story times,

and the shape sorter "the house that Jack built".

Micah still ate like a pro despite being away from home. We're up to a jar and a half of baby food for dinner!

The kids both had/have a mucousy cough so I didn't want them to contaminate other kids in the church nursery. As it turned out, no one was in there, so they both got to play.

I love these pics of my dad and Micah,

and my husband and son.

I am so blessed with family.

Sleep solutions

Yes, this is what it has resorted to: Micah sleeping with breast pads on. If this blog carries on into time, he'll probably despise me for posting this pic, but seriously boy, every two hours you're up.
The verdict: they helped a little bit, but I'm still searching.

My kind of humor

I find Eden hilarious. I don't know if it's because she's two and is blunt or if it's because  she's just so darn cute that anything she says I think is adorable. Anyway, she's funny.
A couple of days ago she was in her crib and kept calling me because something was "on her eye". I went to her, and she says "Mommy, something is on my eye". I looked and didn't see anything and told her just that. She then took my pointer finger and rubbed her eyebrow with my finger. "See" she said. I had a good chuckle. Eden definitely knows what eyebrows are, but I don't think she ever felt them on her own. We then took a few minutes to talk about eyebrows.
Today, we went to Aldi's (remember the cash budget I'm on...gotta get the most bang for my buck). Eden was sitting in the cart, being so good and sweet and starts looking around and wrinkling her nose. As an Aldi worker was walking right past her she said, "this store is kinda different". I had a good laugh as did the worker. This coming from a little girl who asks to go to Brennan's all the time.
